Today’s Coloring Sheet: Defensible Space

The Photograph:

Each coloring sheet is created from a real photograph. This photograph was taken by an amazing family. Wade, who is featured here, is the son of a Hotshot superintendent who responds to wildfires throughout the US and a very loving mother who diligently makes sure their home and surroundings are defensible.

We hope you enjoyed coloring your sheet. How does it compare to the photo above? Does the photo make you think differently about the picture? Did you use different colors? We can’t wait to see everyone’s finished coloring, so be sure to share below or on social media (with your parent’s permission, of course)!

What is defensible space?

Keep your property lean and green to help protect your family and home: Information from ReadyForWildfire.org

“Defensible space is essential to improve your home’s chance of surviving a wildfire. It’s the buffer you create between a building on your property and the grass, trees, shrubs, or any wildland area that surround it. This space is needed to slow or stop the spread of wildfire and it helps protect your home from catching fire—either from direct flame contact or radiant heat. Defensible space is also important for the protection of the firefighters defending your home.” Learn more by visiting ReadyForWildfire.org.
